Dr. Matthews holds press conference announcing complaints filed against two Harris County judges
HOUSTON, TX – Dr. Candice Matthews, a Houston-based civil rights advocate, held a press conference announcing formal judicial complaints filed against two Harris County judges: Judge Dedra Davis of the 270th District Court and Judge Dianne Curvey, who presides over a Protective Order Court. According to Matthews, the complaint against Judge Davis stems from an alleged Facebook Live broadcast conducted from the bench on or about January 27, 2026. Davis reportedly spoke emotionally about recent courtroom matters while seated at the bench, which Matthews contends violates the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct. The complaint cites judicial canons regarding impartiality, public commentary on court matters, and use of judicial office for personal expression. A separate complaint against Judge Curvey includes allegations of civil rights violations and improper conduct in her courtroom. Community members claim Curvey denied public access to court proceedings, issued retaliatory protective orders, and engaged in conduct that they say undermines public confidence in the judiciary. During the press conference, speakers also alleged that Judge Curvey changed her name before taking the bench, and questioned the timing and transparency of the change in relation to prior disciplinary history. The complaint includes references to prior sanctions and documentation submitted for review. Court watchers standing with Matthews said they submitted court transcripts, notarized complaints, and supporting materials to the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct. They called for the removal of both judges and announced that additional complaints are forthcoming. As of this report, neither Judge Davis nor Judge Curvey has publicly responded to the allegations.
