New Metro station Dimotiko Theatro, part of line 3 running from Athens airport to Piraeus port

Greece opened on Monday three new metro stations that include Piraeus that will link the busy port with Athens airport. The stations “Maniatika”, “Piraeus” and “Dimotiko Theatro” on the extension of Metro Line 3 (blue line) are expected to greatly relieve traffic congestion around Greece’s largest port. The additional stations are forecast to increase passenger traffic on the metro by 132,000 a day, while reducing the number of cars on the road by 23,000 a day and lowering carbon emissions by 120 tonnes per day. The total travel time from the Piraeus Port to the “Eleftherios Venizelos” Airport is estimated to be just 55 minutes. Trains will run from Dimotiko Theatro to Doukissis Plakentias station in northeast Athens every four minutes at peak hours (7:30-11:00 and 13:30 to 17:30) and every nine minutes (down from 10 minutes) late at night (22:00 - 00:20). Έχει τρεις προσβάσεις: εντός της πλατείας Δημοτικού Θεάτρου, στην πλατεία Κοραή και στην πλατεία Μπακογιάννη, όλες με δυο κυλιόμενες και μια σταθερή κλίμακα. Η ιστορική πλατεία Δημοτικού Θεάτρου αποκαταστάθηκε με προσοχή στην προϋπάρχουσα κατάστασή της και με τα ίδια αρχικά της αυθεντικά υλικά που είχαν διαφυλαχθεί. Επανατοποθετήθηκαν τα προϋπάρχοντα σιντριβάνια και το άγαλμα του Ελευθερίου Βενιζέλου στην αρχική τους θέση και υλοποιήθηκε νέα φύτευση. Λιμάνι Πειραιά - Αεροδρόμιο σε 55 λεπτά! Με τη λειτουργία και των νέων σταθμών προβλέπεται ημερήσια αύξηση της συνολικής επιβατικής κίνησης στο δίκτυο του Μετρό κατά 132.000 πολίτες ημερησίως, μειώνοντας τόσο την κυκλοφορία των Ι.Χ. οχημάτων κατά 23.000 ημερησίως όσο και τις εκπομπές διοξειδίου του άνθρακα κατά 120 τόνους ημερησίως.
