Pray The Holy Rosary: Joyful Mysteries – Saturday, July 18, 2026 | Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Today we pray the Holy Rosary with the Joyful Mysteries for Saturday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time. In the First Reading, we hear Hezekiah's canticle of gratitude after God pulled him back from the edge of death — a song born entirely from the other side of the valley: "Once I said, in the noontime of life I must depart. I shall see the LORD no more in the land of the living." He had faced the end. He had wept. And God answered. Now he sings (Isaiah 38:9–20). This is not the song of a man who was never tested — it is the song of a man who passed through the test and found God waiting on the other side of it. In the Gospel, Jesus heals a man with a withered hand on the sabbath, and before he does it he asks the Pharisees a question that stops the room: "Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil? To save life or to destroy it?" (Matthew 12:9–14). They say nothing. So he heals the man anyway. The Joyful Mysteries carry us into the tender, hidden beginnings of the One who would one day stretch out his own hands — not to heal a single man, but to carry the sin of the world. From the Annunciation to the Finding in the Temple, every joyful mystery is a step toward the cross, and every cross is a step toward the canticle Hezekiah sang. These readings together trace the arc of the entire Christian life: the withered place, the healing word, the valley of death, and the song on the other side. Hezekful sang because he had genuinely believed it was over — and God proved otherwise. The man with the withered hand stretched it out in faith, and it was restored whole. As we pray the Joyful Mysteries today, we bring every withered place, every noontime of life that felt like the end, and every prayer we have ever wept in private — trusting the God who heals on the sabbath and turns mourning into canticles.
