Anna needs a new lung. She lives with the incurable metabolic disease cystic fibrosis, and her only chance for a longer life is a donor lung transplant. Insa has already undergone the transplant. Since then, she has been enjoying her new life. Pastor Florian Reinecke meets the two women and learns what life can be like before and after a lung transplant. Anna is 27 years old and terminally ill. She has been living with cystic fibrosis – also known as cystic fibrosis – since birth. The disease causes a thick mucus to form in her cells, clogging several vital organs, including her lungs. This makes breathing increasingly difficult for her. For several years, she has been permanently dependent on oxygen and is ventilated at night. Due to her poor lung function, she has been unable to work for some time, and her private life is also severely restricted. Walks are only possible with her mobility scooter, and when she leaves the house, she has to remember emergency medications, an oxygen machine, and other necessary items. To be able to participate more fully in life, she needs a new lung. She has been on the waiting list for an organ donation since 2019. Insa also has cystic fibrosis and was severely limited for a long time. Her time on the waiting list for a donor lung was a constant emotional rollercoaster. But in 2014, she received the long-awaited call: there was a lung for her. The transplant took seven to eight hours – that was 10 years ago now.
