Newcastle Waters School | The Song Room
Marlinja students use music and games in their The Song Room program to learn local Murburra language with help from Teaching Artists, James Winwood and local elder Ray Dimakarri Dixon. The Newcastle Waters School students then wrote, performed and recorded ‘The Sun is Rising’ song in Murburra with music legends Ray, Eleanor and Janine Dixon. This Marlinja School feature was part of VAMPtv recent vodcast which serves as an online platform for remote and regional schools in the Northern Territory showcasing Territory artists, special programs and local festivals. Thanks vampTV and Department of Education Northern Territory for sharing the story.
