Charlie Lightening and Belle Blue Team Up for a Beautiful Performance of "Wash" | SPIN

Award-winning filmmaker Charlie Lightening—known for his work with Paul McCartney, Liam Gallagher, Oasis, Louis Tomlinson, Robbie Williams and some of rock's most iconic artists—recently stepped into a New York rehearsal space with his camera focused on one person: Belle Blue. The result is a striking live performance film for Belle's latest single, "Wash," capturing the raw emotion, confidence and authenticity that have quickly made the 16-year-old songwriter one of indie rock's most compelling emerging artists. Rather than creating a traditional music video, Lightening chose to document Belle in her natural environment—rehearsing with her band, letting the performance speak for itself. The result is intimate, cinematic and completely unfiltered. When a filmmaker known for documenting some of music's biggest legends turns his lens toward a new artist, people tend to pay attention. With "Wash," Belle Blue continues to prove why she's one of the most exciting young voices to watch. It means as much to this current staff as it did to the original writers and editors. A confession: SPIN is imperfect. It’s rough-edged, restless, insatiably curious. A little aggressive, a little cocky. Youthfully uncompromising, but maturely flexible. Romantic — definitely! Irreverent — sure! Unpredictable — yes. Very alive.
