Publishing important work in the life sciences: Randy Schekman at TEDxBerkeley

Randy Schekman at TEDxBerkeley 2014: "Rethink. Redefine. Recreate." His talk is titled "Publishing Important Work in the Life Sciences." Randy Schekman is an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Schekman's research is focused on the process of membrane assembly, vesicular transport, and membrane fusion among organelles of the secretory pathway. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2013. Among other awards, he shared the Gairdner International Award, the Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize and the Lasker Award with James Rothman. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society and the National Academy of Sciences, he was elected President of the American Society for Cell Biology in 1999 and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences from 2006 to late 2011. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
