Profile Seiya Wakisaka (Director, Wakisaka Tax Accounting Office; Chairman, Certified NPO NPO Accounting and Tax Professionals Network) Born in Meguro-ku, Tokyo in 1966 Graduated from Waseda University, Faculty of Political Science and Economics, Department of Economics At the age of 25, he joined the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and was dispatched to Côte d'Ivoire in West Africa. He wanted to "help the people of Africa!", but lacked the power to be of much help. He realized that "to be of help to others, one needs the ability to be helpful," and decided to pursue his father's profession as a tax accountant. After returning to Japan, at the age of 28, he began studying for the tax accountant exam while helping with his father's work. He passed 5 subjects in 4 attempts and registered as a tax accountant at the age of 32. After becoming independent, I struggled with the question, "What was the point of my two years in the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers?" It was during this time that I encountered NPOs, and through my involvement in NPO accounting and taxation, I realized that my experience in the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and my work as a tax accountant were connected. Subsequently, I was involved in the development of accounting standards for NPOs (Vice Chairperson of the Development Committee), and currently serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Certified NPO Accounting and Tax Professionals Network, a network of tax accountants and certified public accountants supporting NPOs; a director of the National Legacy Gift Association; a specialist research committee member of the TKC National Association Public Interest Corporation Management Research Group; and an auditor for the Sawayaka Welfare Foundation and the National Network for East Japan Earthquake Relief.
