(186) Zeuge: Pawel Stjenkin - Frankfurter-Auschwitz-Prozess

Tape recordings of the first major Auschwitz trial from 1963 to 1965 Prisoner Part 186 - Witness: Pawel Stjenkin - 107th day of the trial Source: https://www.auschwitz-prozess.de/ Starting on December 20, 1963, the largest criminal trial in postwar German history took place in Frankfurt. It involved three judges and six jurors, four prosecutors, three joint prosecutors, 19 defense attorneys, and 22 defendants. For the witnesses who had survived their imprisonment in the camp, the testimony was extremely stressful. They relived the horrific events twenty years later. Furthermore, the defense put pressure on them by casting doubt on the veracity of their accounts. A break was often necessary because a witness had reached the limit of their endurance. The testimony of the former prisoners provoked dismay and consternation in the audience. A total of 360 witnesses were heard. On May 6, 1965, after 154 days of trial, the hearing of evidence was concluded.
