Llaneros are people native to the Llanos (plains) of the intertropical zone of the Orinoco River basin, which encompasses South America. In Colombia, the region is known as the Eastern Plains, the Llanos, or Orinoquía, made up of the departments of Arauca, Casanare, Meta, and Vichada. In Venezuela, it is known as the Llanos Region and includes the states of Barinas, Apure, Portuguesa, Cojedes, Guárico, Anzoátegui, and Monagas.
