The Next Step 'Rivers of Hate'

The Next Step were a mid '60s garage band from Northern California. They released two 45s, this one on the MCC label is very rare, being listed at #19 on the G45 rarest garage 45s list, with only 2 copies known. I don't own one but received the label scan from someone who does. 'Rivers of Hate' was comped for the first time on the 2009 CD 'Up From The Grave' on the Frantic label. The other song 'I Said No' is also great & included on 'Up From the Grave' as well as 'Gravel #1'. Quoting from the G45 description ..... "from "I Said No" :"Everywhere I go they say get out of our town, everywhere I go they're going to put me down, but can't they see I don't want their sympathy, oh yeah, can't they see I will never go on my knees, oh no". And from the flip "the blood red sun cremates my brain"...It's the doom-laden lyrics which distinguish both sides of this unheard teen jangler (with touches of psych). One of the hardest CA 45's to find, we only know of two copies, there's a chance this will be confirmed or denied in the near future." The singer on both sides was Jimmy Hayes. The footage used is public domain, from a film titled 'Planet of Prehistoric Women', a Russian sci-fi film that had extra footage added (the women) to sex it up for a '60s USA commercial release.
