Mr. Karthikeyan was born in the village of Iraiyamangalam in Thiruchengode taluka of Namakkal district. He completed his schooling from Gandhi Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Kandhampalayam. He completed his engineering degree in Mining Engineering from Anna University's Guindy campus. He then worked as a mining engineer in the private sector at the Singarani Coal Mine in Telangana for about two and a half years. His father passed away two years ago. His mother lives in the village. It is noteworthy that his elder brother, Mr. Satish Kumar, is working as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Ambasamudram, Tirunelveli district. He is married.
