This method of growing sugarcane can be use to grow in the ground as well. In the South it's best to plan the sugarcane in the fall. The cane will not sprout up but the roots will start to develop. Once it warms up in spring\summer the sugarcane will begin to sprout up. The sugarcane should be in an area where it gets full sun. I would place the container in the area where you want it to grow. The main reason is it's going to be very heavy to move once the soil is placed in it. Fertilizing the cane will be necessary when it comes up. I decided to fertilize the soil in the fall when planting. I used cuttings to place 4 inches deep to start the process. You want to plant the sugar canes at the right depth for strong germination.
