The historical drama "Pages of the Past" is a Soviet feature film shot by Yevgeny Tashkov at the Odesa Film Studio in 1957. The film tells the story of the revolutionary underground of Odesa workers. The action takes place in 1901. A village boy named Alexey (played by Pyotr Shcherbakov) comes to Odessa to earn money. While still on the train, the hero meets a young worker named Mitya (played by Nikolay Bogolyubov) and witnesses the arrest of the underground activist Savva, who was distributing Lenin's "Iskra". The boy quickly gets used to the city, learns that you have to fight for your rights, and becomes one of the most active Leninist Odessans. The song from the film, with lyrics by Vladimir Karpeko, "Oh, what a drama, the queen of spades" became the anthem of Odessa's criminals a year later.
