Turkana Child Roadmakers

Provision of basic commodities and services for residents of Turkana County remains an uphill task, what with the harsh weather conditions there and the perceived marginalization by the central government. Children are bearing the brunt of it, with some now resorting to repairing poor roads in the region, a bait they use to attract the sympathy of motorists who then offer them money and foodstuffs. Our reporter Franklin Macharia has just returned from Turkana and tells us of these children's tribulations on the Lodwar Lokichogio road.
