If the film "Brother" featured Civil Defense songs, I'd have to add commentary to the video: why this is playing, why that is playing (otherwise, STV would ban it for copyright reasons). I also added the music the creators originally intended. I once heard the idea that Letov's songs couldn't be a proper film soundtrack. I decided to see if that was really true. Besides, I really wanted to combine the creative work of two outstanding personalities – Yegor Letov and Alexei Balabanov. I think it worked out quite well in places, although there are some throwaway moments (for example, the banality of the song "Filthy Youth" – I see punks, so I play a song about punks). But there are also perfect hits ("Dembelskaya" (!!!), "Where," "War Has No Woman's Face," and others). There were also amusing counterpoints between the music and the action onscreen ("That's How the Steel Was Tempered"). There was also an almost verbatim match with the song "Eternal Spring." I think Yegor Letov and the Civil Defense team fit the film quite well. They don't fundamentally change the meaning, but they certainly add a slightly different flavor to the entire film and its events. It was a bit challenging: it wasn't always clear whether to base the scene on the action or the entire film. We also had to cut some scenes to fit the running time. Along with the original music, the original spatial sounds (like the atmosphere of the house, the sounds of the street, etc.) were also removed. I had to find and select them myself.
