In this seminar, Dr. Jon Yewdell, M.D., Ph.D., of NIAID, covers topics related to viral protein translations, the mechanisms of influenza and coronavirus evolution, and new research to identify and characterize novel viral proteins through peace and antibody responses. Dr. Yewdell discusses anagenic drift and shift, with the latter being a major concern due to reduced immunity against novel viruses and viral variants. Dr. Yewdell also discusses the limitations of mucosal immunity and the effectiveness of antibodies. His talk delves into the interaction of antibodies and their potential use in a universal flu vaccine.
