The first looked at the future of religion and atheism around the world. The second examined why people in Pakistan become atheists. And the third investigated a claim I have heard for years: that Shia Muslims are far less likely to leave religion than Sunnis. I thought I already knew what the data would show. I was wrong. Some of the findings were so unexpected that they challenged assumptions held by religious people, atheists, and even sectarian communities alike. Today, we'll look at what the numbers actually say—and the final result was something I never would have guessed.
