Everyone has an altar in their heart that represents the center of life. Yet, do we often turn our faith into a contract of transactional exchange, rather than a covenant connected with God? Elijah, a prophet from an ordinary background, aligned himself with God through persistent prayer. In his showdown with the prophets of Baal, he rebuilt the altar, restored the identity of God's children, and experienced the purification and renewal of God's fire and rain. However, victory is more than a momentary peak. In the valley that followed, God personally restored him with a gentle whisper.
