Bushmills 10, 16 & 21 Year Irish Single Malt Whiskies Reviewed

Here we find out what gives these 3 Single Malt expressions of Bushmills their unique flavor profiles. All are made with 100% malted barley that is triple distilled in copper pot stills and none of these contain any grain whiskey. The 10 Year retails around $40-$45 and is created using a majority of 10-year-old ex-bourbon barrel matured Bushmills but also has some 10-year-old oloroso sherry cask matured Bushmills in the mix. The 16 Year retails for $100 and is made using roughly 16-year-old Ex-bourbon and Oloroso matured Bushmills that then goes into Port casks for 6-14 months. I say “roughly” since it’s all up to master blender, Helen Mulholland’s palate to decide when they’re ready to move into and from the finishing cask. The 21 Year retails for $250 and begins similarly as they use 19 to 21-year-old ex-bourbon and oloroso matured Bushmills that is then transferred into Madeira drums for a 2 to 2.5-year finish. Every year 9,000-34,000 bottles are released globally depending on how those Madeira casks hit their standards. All in all, each expression has a place and time and if you’re looking for a solid Irish whiskey, it’s hard to find a line that has consistency like Bushmills.
