Suzuka is a famous city that represents Mie Prefecture, and there are many nationally famous things such as Suzuka Circuit, HONDA, and Suzuka Point Gators. As a terminal station in the center of such a city representing Mie Prefecture, one would think that it would be a large and impressive station with many passengers, but it is a simple structure with one single platform and one track at ground level, where arriving trains simply turn around, and the average number of passengers per day in 2019 was 3,248, which is less than that of Nabari Station in my remote city. Considering that the total number of students at Suzuka Junior High School and High School, which is the nearest station to this station, is about 1,650, about half of the passengers are students from Suzuka Junior High School and High School. What is it like for a station in the center of a city representing Mie Prefecture to be used by almost all students from one school? I wondered if the nearest station to Sakushin Gakuin, one of Japan's largest schools, was like that, so I looked it up and found that the nearest station to Sakushin Gakuin is Utsunomiya Station. Even Sakushin Gakuin cannot account for the majority of passengers at the station in the prefectural capital of Tochigi, so I think the percentage of Suzuka students at Hiratamachi Station is high nationwide. Hiratamachi Station has a low passenger traffic, but it is the center of Suzuka City, so the area in front of the station is thriving in Mie Prefecture.
