(2 Dec 1977) RR7748B MOTOR RALLYING THE 1977 LOMBARD-RAC The 1977 Lombard-RAC, the most taxing rally in Europe, was almost a clean sweep for Fords, whose cars took five out of the first six places. Swedish driver Bjorn Waldegaard, who won the Monte Carlo and the Safari rallies earlier this year, achieved a remarkable hat-trick by winning on the British course as well. Hannu Mikkola was second in a Toyota. This report follows competitors on the 1900-mile route, including over 400 miles of special stages where split-second timing is vital to success.
