Five years ago, we invested our entire life savings in a 500-year-old abandoned estate located two hours north of London. We soon discovered why no one else had even made an offer — the crumbling cottages, stables, outbuildings, gardens and grand 20-room Manor House were all hidden under a blanket of overgrown ivy, shrubs and trees. To add to the challenge, we recently acquired another crumbling 20-room Georgian Manor House that was once part of the original estate.
