BRASS FROM THE PAST: 1997 Naumann 3-Hole D/Db/C/Cb Baroque Trumpet. Made by Andrew Naumann in Melrose Park, Illinois. This Trumpet is technically a (Natural Trumpet) but has 3 vent holes that have been added so that certain partials in the harmonic series will play in-tune, thus making this a modern day baroque trumpet. There is a 3-hole and a 4-hole system. I begin the demonstration by playing Handel: "The Trumpet Shall Sound" in the key of D. Each time I change a crook I play a little more of the musical piece and drop a half step until I end up in Cb. Listen to sounds from the past. Perhaps this is how the trumpet sounded 285 years ago in 1741 when this music was written. But this time it is more in tune thanks to the vent holes.
