Złotów - Stolica Krajny i... ryczącego jelenia
Złotów - the capital of Krajna and ... a roaring deer Krajna (Latin Crayen), a historical land in Poland, situated on the border between Pomerania and Greater Poland. The name Krajna comes from the word "country" or "edge", i.e. the border area, the outskirts, the area lying on the edge, due to the historical location of this region at the edge of the Polan state. Krajna is a border area between Greater Poland and Kashubia, included either in northern Greater Poland or in Pomerania. It was connected with a dispute that had not been resolved among historians until recently, where the border between the tribes of Polanie and Pomorzan ran. It is now known that this border was the southern bank of the Noteć, so Krajna was situated on the Pomeranian side. Krajna borders from the north with Kashubia, from the east with Bory Tucholskie, and from the south with Pałuki. It is contained between the rivers Debrzynka and Kamionka, Orla (from the north), Noteć (from the south), Gwda (from the west) and Brda (from the east). In the period of shaping the Polish statehood, Krajna and Pomerania were incorporated in the middle of the 10th century to Poland. Złotów (until 1945 German Flatow) - a city in northwest Poland, in the province of Greater Poland. Located in the south-western part of the Krajeńskie Lake District, which is part of the Pomeranian Lake District, in the historic Krajna, on the Pomeranian-Greater Poland border, on the Głomia River and the lakes: Złotowskie (Miejskie), Baba, Burmistrzowskie, Proboszczowskie and Zaleskie. The first traces of settlement in the area of today's Złotów come from the Neolithic, while medieval chronicles mention the Wielatowo castle, located in the Kraina region. The city was founded in 1370. The private noble town of Złotowo was the property of Piotr Potulicki, the voivode of Płock. Due to its location on the border, Złotów was destroyed many times, incl. during the Swedish Deluge and the Third Northern War. After the partitions, Złotów became part of the Kingdom of Prussia, and then united Germany. He returned to Poland in 1945. Monuments and tourist facilities of Złotów 1.
