We're at www.experienciasconarte.com The Great Masters of the Baroque The Baroque period was an era of prolific artists who, with these newly formulated common elements, took their art to the most diverse landscapes. In our top five, we have Diego Velázquez, a master of universal painting, with his impressive portraits that come to life and tell stories full of symbolism. Another favorite of ours is the great rogue Caravaggio, considered the bad boy of the Baroque, who was even accused of murder. Caravaggio offers us a first-rate chronicle of street life: the elderly, vagrants, prostitutes, street children… his painting doesn't shy away from the violence of the streets in which he himself lived. Caravaggio is the undisputed king of Baroque tenebrism. Another Spanish Baroque painter who produced all his work in Italy was José de Ribera, known in Italy as Lo Spagnoletto. Ribera cultivated a naturalistic style that evolved from Caravaggio's tenebrism toward a more colorful and luminous style, already influenced by other Dutch artists such as Van Dyck. And in the Netherlands, with its diverse themes, we cannot fail to mention Rembrandt, with his dark palette full of dramatic chiaroscuro, in contrast to the genre interiors of Johannes Vermeer, where the routine of daily life unfolds with incomparable beauty and tranquility. 0:00 Introduction 0:07 Baroque Painting 1:03 When did the Baroque emerge? 2:18 What are the characteristics of Baroque painting? 2:29 Volume and bodies in motion 3:04 Tenebrism 3:26 Naturalism 3:52 The usual themes and some new ones... 4:55 Color takes precedence, composition is liberated 5:34 The great geniuses of the Baroque 5:56 Diego Velázquez 6:27 Caravaggio 7:08 José de Ribera (Il Espagnoletto) 7:59 Rembrandt 8:29 Vermeer
