But true to form, we decided not to follow the beaten path. We took an alternative route to discover Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, navigate the Reloncaví Estuary, and seek the shadow of the Yates Volcano. What began as a day of epic landscapes and pristine nature in the Valdivian Rainforest suddenly turned into our worst nightmare. A critical brake failure on our Ford Ranger forced us to a screeching halt. In a place where help is scarce and with the route barely underway, we faced the toughest question: Could we continue, or did our Carretera Austral journey end here? In this episode: We explore the Petrohué Falls and Chile's oldest national park. We crossed the Reloncaví Estuary into the heart of Route 7. We discovered the history of the muleteers in Cochamó.
