Achilles and Patroclus
The relationship between the Ancient Greek hero Achilles and his loyal companion Patroclus is one of those gems from greek mythology that still intrigues us today, leaving us wondering: were they lovers? were they friends? Historians and scholars today can't seem to be able to agree on a final verdict, and that's perhaps because human relationships are something more complex and layered than a yes-or-no answer. What's interesting is that this debate is just as ancient as the myth itself: we see it developing already in Antiquity: with some of the major cultural figures of Ancient Greece strongly disagreeing with each other! Well, whatever they answer might be, the story of Achilles and Patroclus is one of the most beautiful, most touching aspects of the Iliad, and certainly one of Homer's greatest legacies. #iliad #homer #achilles #trojanwar #pride #queer #thesongofachilles #patroclus
