Craig Foster doubles down on ‘fundamentally different’ case to ban Israel from FIFA
Socceroo legend Craig Foster has been questioned in a fiery discussion about his call for Australia to support a ban on Israel from competing in international football. Mr Foster was accused of holding double standards as he has yet to call for other countries to be banned from the sport despite their lists of recognised human rights abuses. The former Socceroos captain claimed Israel’s case was different after the ICJ ruled their offensive into Gaza was genocide. “FIFA have the strongest human rights policy in all of international sport – that is why they have to make a decision on Israel,” Mr Foster told Sky News Australia host Danica De Giorgio. “Here, the ICJ has made a ruling, and what that means for FIFA is they have to act. “There has only been, as I understand it in recent times, four rulings on genocide, so it is fundamentally different.”
