When production began on Superman II, Richard Donner was pleased to be coming back to the set and making another hit movie. However, with studio interference rampit following the success of the first film- WB and the Salkinds attempt to control the direction of the project resulted in losing their director, and nearly losing the franchise potential of their Superman.
