Hiking & Driving Fern Canyon in Redwood National Park! Lighthouse & Breweries in Crescent City, CA!
During our stay to northern California, we visit Crescent City and go down to hike the Fern Canyon. In Crescent City we check out the Battery Point Lighthouse along the Pacific Ocean. Afterwards we stop in at Port O'Pints Brewing to drink their beers and then on to SeaQuake Brewing for a small bite to eat and samply their beers. South from the Mystic Forest RV Park is Prairie Creek Visitor Center to view the elk. We were lucky enough to see them. We stopped by the big tree and then drove towards the ocean. Fern Canyon was our last stop in the video and it was a good one. Beautiful and scenic views were all throughout the canyon as we hike through the creek. Fern Canyon is a lush, narrow gorge located in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, part of the larger Redwoods National and State Parks system in Northern California. This stunning canyon is famous for its vertical walls draped with dense, lush ferns and mosses, creating a serene and otherworldly atmosphere. Here are some key details about Fern Canyon: 1. **Location**: Fern Canyon is situated near the coast, about 50 miles north of Eureka, California. The nearest town is Orick. 2. **Scenic Beauty**: The canyon is about 50 feet deep and lined with a variety of fern species, including the five-fingered fern and the delicate lady fern. Water often trickles down the canyon walls, enhancing its verdant appearance. 3. **Accessibility**: Fern Canyon is accessible via a short hike from the parking area at the end of Davison Road. The hike is relatively easy, but visitors should be prepared to wade through shallow streams and navigate over or around fallen trees. 4. **Film Location**: Fern Canyon's unique and enchanting landscape has been featured in several films, most notably in "The Lost World: Jurassic Park." 5. **Seasonal Considerations**: The best time to visit is during the summer and early fall when the weather is more predictable. However, the canyon can be visited year-round, with each season offering its own unique charm. 6. **Wildlife and Flora**: Besides ferns, visitors might encounter a variety of other plants and wildlife native to the region, including elk, birds, and other small animals. Fern Canyon is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts, photographers, and anyone looking to experience the tranquil beauty of Northern California's coastal redwood region.
