Dive into the KT12 shipwreck in Sardinia, one of the most iconic WWII wreck dives in the Mediterranean. Resting at around 34 meters depth in the Gulf of Orosei, this German Kriegs Transporter offers an incredible mix of history, marine life, and underwater exploration. Built in Livorno in 1943 for the German Navy, the KT12 was an armed cargo vessel carrying fuel, vehicles, and supplies to North Africa. But its mission was cut short on 10 June 1943, when it was intercepted by the British submarine HMS Safari. A torpedo hit the bow, tearing it completely off and sending it to the seabed nearly 300 meters away. The remaining hull caught fire and drifted on the surface for about 41 minutes before finally sinking, creating the dramatic wreck we can explore today. Now lying upright and remarkably well preserved, the KT12 wreck is a paradise for advanced scuba divers, featuring visible details like the stern gun, cargo holds, engine room, and scattered wartime artifacts. The site is also rich in marine life, with groupers, barracuda, and amberjacks frequently surrounding the wreck. Exploring the KT12 isn’t just a dive—it’s a journey into history beneath the surface, where every section of the wreck tells the story of its final mission.
