Check the Basics (Fuses & Relays) ​The first step is always the engine room fuse box. ​Main Fuse: Look for the C/FAN 40A fuse. If this is blown, the fan won't work at all. ​High-Speed Relay: Swap the "Fan Hi" relay with a known good relay of the same type (like the Horn relay) to see if the fan engages. If it works with the swap, you just need a new relay. ​2. Test the Fan Resistor ​The fan resistor controls the speeds. It is usually mounted directly on the radiator fan shroud because it needs the airflow to stay cool. ​Visual Check: Inspect the connector for melting or corrosion. This is a common failure point on Kias. ​Continuity Test: Use a multimeter to check for continuity across the resistor pins. If the circuit is "open," the high speed will never engage. ​3. Test the Fan Motor Directly ​To rule out a dead motor: ​Disconnect the fan's electrical pigtail. ​Using jumper wires, connect the fan motor directly to the battery. ​Caution: Keep fingers and tools clear; if the motor is good, it will spin up immediately at full speed. ​If it doesn't spin when connected directly to 12V, the motor is burnt out and the entire fan assembly needs replacement. ​4.
