STATE RECEPTION MARKS 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIJI’S INDEPENDENCE

State reception was held this evening at the State House to commemorate Fiji’s 55th Independence Anniversary, marking the conclusion of a week-long celebration of Fiji Day.The event was hosted by the Acting President, Chief Justice Salesi Temo, and attended by the Prime Minister, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from regional organisations, non-governmental organisations, religious bodies, and community leaders.The highlight of the evening was the “Beating of the Retreat”, a traditional military ceremony with origins dating back to 17th-century England.In keeping with this tradition, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) conducted the ceremony at the Coronation Ground within the State House premises.
