Alice Springs sees spike in property crime

Sky News Darwin Bureau Chief Matt Cunningham says there has been a serious increase in levels of property crime in Alice Springs. Data shows house break-ins across Alice Springs are up 260 per cent between October 2016 and October 2023. With commercial break-ins up by about 160 per cent and property damage is up by almost 100 per cent. However, Mr Cunningham said since the Albanese government reinstated Alcohol bans in early 2023, the number of alcohol-fueled hospital presentations, and the number of domestic violence of alcohol-related assaults have fallen quite significantly. "They're still at levels that really represent a national crisis but they're lower than they were 12 months ago," Mr Cunningham told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
