The examples are taken from The Lord of the Rings – Extended Edition, directed by Peter Jackson, and are used for the purpose of educational commentary and criticism. I'll explain what a leitmotif is, and how it connects with People, Places, Objects, or Concepts, and how it can be developed, before looking at some examples from these movies. We go behind the film score and look closer at analysing how the composer thinks about writing music for film with orchestra.
