Tangariro Crossing New Zealand's most dangerous hike 🇳🇿

Hey guys! Today we’re taking you on one of the hardest walks we’ve ever done in New Zealand: the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Everyone we spoke to told us it was “a must”… but what no one really explained is how intense it can be—especially when the weather turns. We started the day feeling excited (and honestly a little underprepared), but the moment we got onto the track, we realized this hike is no joke. You’re walking through an active volcanic landscape, dealing with changing conditions, and pushing through long stretches that feel completely exposed to the wind. To do the crossing, you’ll need to plan your transport because it’s a point-to-point hike. We used a shuttle/budget approach to get ourselves to the start and make sure we could finish at the other end without having to backtrack. One thing we learned quickly: even if it looks like a “beautiful walk,” you need to pack like the weather could change at any moment. We shared what we brought with us (layers, wind protection, food/water, and a few essentials) because this is the kind of hike where being prepared makes a huge difference. There are toilets along the way, but don’t expect comfort: no toilet paper and no running water, so bring what you need (and hand sanitizer). This is one of those small details that can really matter on a long day out. The most challenging sections for us were the exposed windy areas and the steep downhill where you’re basically sliding down loose gravel with no stairs, no railings… nothing. It’s stunning, but it’s also the part where you really feel how tough this crossing can be.
