FABLES OF FAUBUS (C. Mingus- arr. S. Cortese)

During 2020 I wanted to recover an arrangement of this piece by trying to involve some fellow musicians remotely, to simultaneously pay homage to the great composer and bassist C. Mingus, and at the same time dare a “nordestina” version (northeast of Brazil) with an accent and pronunciation typical of traditional "Forro'" music, such as the rhythms “Baiao” and “Xote” Unable to meet in person, we, like many, recorded remotely and with each of the musicians I tried to imagine what could come out of it, in short, even if while I was doing it, it seemed strange to us, we had to trust. Then more phone calls and attempts to mix these extravagant parts ... but already in 2021 the music was ready. I decided to have each of musicians record videos and then edit a video. But these archives remained in the computer drawer, for almost 5 years. So, in January of this year Julio came to visit me in Vale do Capao and we decided it was time to make this video, but.....the video archives were lost. With a new creative impetus Julio Rego proposed to film several scenes and in the following months he edited a story with images of the musicians and new characters. And here we are, in the month of June to celebrate the release of this work in homage to the “festas juninas”, to the rhythms of the Brazilian northeast, to Afro-American jazz, to film creativity and to the playful challenge of getting involved. Enjoy! Credits in the video
