Tso Marpo (5070 m) - the Red Lake in Ladakh

Tso Marpo (5070 m), Photoksar, Ladakh, India In Ladakhi, 'Tso' means 'lake' and 'Marpo' means 'Red' It was an year ago when @dhruv_kathuria.1 told me about this lake and then I looked at the contours and then finally I was able to execute the speed hike on 12th August 2023 Speed Hike statistics Starting Point: Photoksar (4100 m) End point: Photoksar (4100 m) Distance: 28.79 km Elevation gain: 1111 meter Total duration: 08 hr 30 min Highest point: 5107 meter I was very well acclimatized and thus was able to do the hike with ease. I will map the trail and it will reflect on all offline navigation platforms within a week. I drove from Leh to Photoksar on a bike. It was 160 km and the last 40 km road is not good. It took me 04 hours to ride till Photoksar. I stayed in a homestay (Rs 1200/-) for meals and stay. There is Jio network (postpaid) in the village. I started the hike at 05:15 am on 12th August, 2023. There are two stream crossings (beginner level) with some beautiful meadows enroute the lake. I reached the lake in 04 hr 30 mins and I sat there for an hour. It felt extremely peaceful as I had no co-trekkers with me. I clicked the pictures by keeping my phone on a stone and using the S-pen (I use Samsung S23 Ultra). The return was pretty simple and I was back in the village by 02:15 pm. I took a 20 min break and came back to Leh on the same day. The lake was documented by ISRO in 2004 using remote sensing satellites.
