JAKARTA, KOMPASTV - The General Chair of the Indonesian Construction Professionals Association (ATAKI) for North Sumatra, Junjungan Pasaribu, believes the explosion that destroyed a house in the Grand Polonia Housing Complex, Medan, was likely triggered by an accumulation of gas trapped inside the building due to a leak. Junjungan suspects two possible causes of the leak. First, a disruption in the pipeline due to a shift or movement carried out by another party. "The pipeline was disrupted because it was shifted or moved by someone else, not a gas company," Junjungan said on the Dipo Investigasi program on Monday (July 27, 2026). He also highlighted the lack of ventilation in modern homes, which he believes can exacerbate the impact of gas leaks. "Many houses now lack ventilation, so there is no way for gas to escape when there is a leak," he explained.
