🎵 Hark! The Herald Angels Sing 🎵 A very warm welcome to this video!🤗👋 I've had a great start to my studies at the HfM Detmold (Germany). Unfortunately, moving house and studying have taken up a lot of my time, which is why there hasn't been a video for so long. However, I'll be back in Marienstatt in a few weeks to record some new Christmas hymns for you, and I'm really looking forward to it. Today, I'm sharing a recording of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” from last year. The lyrics were written by Charles Wesley and published in his collection “Hymns and Sacred Poems” in 1739. Interestingly, the text was sung to the melody of “Amazing Grace.” It was not until 1840 that Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy wrote the melody that is now world-famous. It was originally part of the festive song for the Gutenberg Festival, which Mendelssohn composed in 1840 for the “fourth centenary celebration of the invention of printing” in Leipzig. I hope you enjoy this recording.
