Here are a few examples: Utilization of nutrients Storage of energy carriers (glycogen, fats) Breakdown and excretion of substances Production of vital proteins Formation of important blood proteins and blood clotting components Production of bile acids Many different substances can damage the liver over time. These are known as liver toxins, and these can lead to cirrhosis of the liver. Typical liver toxins include: Alcohol ⚠ Medications ⚠ Pesticides ⚠ Fatty foods ⚠ In liver cirrhosis, liver function is severely impaired, making it increasingly difficult for the liver to perform its tasks. This ultimately threatens the entire body and, consequently, one's own life. Possible consequences are numerous and include, among others: 1) impaired cognitive function, 2) memory problems, 3) altered mental status, 4) psychological changes, 5) blood clotting disorders, and much more. Possible diseases resulting from liver cirrhosis include: 1) hepatic encephalopathy, 2) portal hypertension, 3) ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdomen), and, of course, 4) liver cancer. Liver cirrhosis can therefore lead to liver cancer. When is it considered liver cirrhosis? Doctors diagnose liver cirrhosis when the liver can no longer fully perform its functions. Initially, those affected usually don't notice anything. Only as the disease progresses do the first symptoms eventually appear. Liver cirrhosis itself is further classified into three stages. The so-called Child-Pugh classification is based on laboratory values that measure the presence of certain substances in the blood. Furthermore, visible symptoms such as fluid retention and altered mental status appear by the second stage at the latest. Symptoms of Liver Cirrhosis As liver cirrhosis progresses, the liver eventually becomes unable to fulfill its functions. This impairs the production of 1) plasma proteins, 2) antibodies, and 3) bile, and thus the detoxification function. In addition, the distribution of nutrients throughout the body becomes increasingly difficult, as the liver releases or absorbs them from the blood as needed. Ultimately, the storage of vitamins and the production of precursors for hormone production also increasingly fail. Treatment of Liver Cirrhosis As soon as liver cirrhosis is diagnosed, treatment begins. For the treatment to be successful, all contributing factors must be addressed immediately. This includes abstaining from alcohol and/or changing medications. At the same time, the diet should be optimized to ensure the body receives all essential nutrients. More information about surgeries, etc., can be found in the video. As a last resort, a liver transplant may be necessary if the patient's own liver has already suffered too much damage. ▬ About this channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ With "Video Visit Dr. Weigl," you've found a current and medically sound channel that explains topics related to pain, medicine, and health in an understandable way, based on facts, guidelines, and studies. ... ▬ More Videos ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Alcohol as a Risk Factor and its Consequences for Health and the Liver: https://bit.ly/Alkohol_Video Why Do You Have to Urinate Often When Drinking Alcohol?: https://bit.ly/AlkoholPinkeln_Video Fatty Liver from Alcohol: https://bit.ly/Fettleber_Video Lowering Cholesterol Permanently and Naturally: https://bit.ly/CholesterinSenken_Video The Best Protein Sources: Animal vs. Plant-Based Protein Sources: https://bit.ly/BestenEiweißquellen_Video ▬ Social Media ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ►Facebook: https://bit.ly/facebook_DrWeigl ►Website: https://doktorweigl.de ►Twitter: https://bit.ly/Twitter_DrWeigl ►Instagram: / doktorweigl ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Legal Notice / Disclaimer: The videos are for informational purposes only and are not a substitute for personal consultation, examination, or diagnosis by a licensed, qualified physician.
