"Global Business Outlook: Trends Shaping the Next Era of Commerce" with Hon. Ken Lipper

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, the World Affairs Council of Orange County had the honor of hosting Ken Lipper at the event "Global Business Outlook: Trends Shaping the Next Era of Commerce". Hon. Lipper's accolades include: former investment banking partner of Lehman Brothers and Salomon Brothers; founded a multibillion investment management and corporate finance firm, Lipper & Co.; former Deputy Mayor of New York City under Mayor Ed Koch; Commissioner and Chairman of the Ethics and Governance Committee at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; screenwriter and producer of City Hall, starring Al Pacino; producer of The Winter Guest, starring Emma Thompson; produced with Steven Spielberg, the Holocaust documentary The Last Days, for which Ken received an Academy Award; wrote the novels City Hall and Wall Street and was Chief Technical Adviser to Oliver Stone on the latter film. Moderating the event was Professor Jonathan Aronson, professor of communication at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, USC and professor of international relations LAO at USC. Ken Lipper covered a diverse range of topics analyzing: geopolitical trends like the advent of A.I., climate change, and the decoupling of China from the West and how this will shape the next era of business; chip semiconductor manufacturing in Taiwan; the future of labor unions; price-earnings ratio and its measurability; global migration and how it affects business; and his inspiration for writing and producing films like City Hall and Wall Street.
