Explosion in the Blast Furnace - The Port Talbot Steelworks Disaster 2001
On the 8th November 2001, Just after 5:13pm, the number 5 blast furnace at the Port Talbot steelworks exploded. The explosion lifted the entire furnace from its foundations, resulting in molten iron ejecting out on the workers below. Three workers were tragically killed and over 12 people suffered severe injuries. This documentary reveals the appalling safety practices, management behavior and neglect shown by Corus steel, that has left the town still recovering to this day.
