Indeed, if a catastrophe only affects Europe or China, we're talking about a local disaster, which will have a different set of consequences than a planetary catastrophe. The speed of recovery, particularly with international aid, is another factor. We all have vivid images of a post-apocalyptic world, fueled by science fiction. More or less exaggerated, by the way. And it's clear that many variables are determined by the catastrophe responsible for the civilizational collapse. If the damage is extreme, humanity is wiped out.
