Babyblues und Mutterglück: Neue Herausforderungen für die Tierretter | Dorfmenschen

“You’re quite the mom now!” Janne (23) says, laughing, to his wife Sina (21). And it’s true: since October 2022, the two animal rescuers have been parents. Baby Lou brings new roles and challenges for them. Until now, Janne and Sina have spent most of their time caring for the 170 animals on their adventure farm in Gerhardsbrunn in the Palatinate region. Now, a baby has arrived, bringing with it a whole host of new emotions: the overflowing love for their own child, but also the worries, anxieties, and expectations that suddenly come with having a child. It’s important to them that their daughter Lou grows up surrounded by animals. And they consider it a gift that they can give Lou a life as a village child, surrounded by many animals in the heart of nature. Besides their beloved dogs, the farm in the Palatinate is also home to cats, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep, goats, raccoons, horses, ponies, donkeys, and tortoises. At the farm, old, sick, abused, or abandoned pets also find a new home. For the young couple, living with animals is both a hobby and a lifelong dream. Animal welfare is a huge issue for them, to which they dedicate a lot of time. It's important to them that others also learn more about species-appropriate animal husbandry, for example, through donkey treks or children's birthday parties at the farm. Besides donations, they finance the animals' upkeep with the proceeds from these events. Having so many animals is not only a passion project but also a great responsibility for the young family. At times, Janne reaches his limits. In the first part of our "Village People" series, Janne also speaks openly about his mental health issues, for which he has sought professional help. For him, openly discussing his mental health has been a very positive experience, and he hopes that his approach can encourage others. With baby Lou came the idea for an animal playgroup. It's convenient that Janne's mother, Anja, is a kindergarten teacher and also has a soft spot for animals. With the playgroup, the two hope to meet more young parents from the surrounding area. As the youngest resident of the village, Lou currently has few playmates nearby. But Janne and Sina can no longer imagine living in the city. When Janne moved to the farm in the small Palatinate village in 2018, the beginning wasn't always easy. However, they have since found close friends and supporters in the village, including their neighbors Emily and Lotta. They actively help out, and Emily is currently completing a school internship with them. This gives her firsthand experience of just how much work goes into living with animals. But Janne and Sina can no longer imagine life in the city.
