In this video, I'm going to show you the system I use to dock and undock alone. I use two tricks for this. It's a very simple maneuver that I'm sure many of you will find useful. This system is very convenient in our usual port, where we have our mooring. We'll have one rope tied to the ring on the dock and a carabiner on the other end. We'll hook it to the test balcony however best suits us, and I'll show you the two methods I use. The first is to hook the carabiner to the rope itself, and the other way is to hook the carabiner to a firm area of the balcony. I always have a buoy attached to one of the cleats. It's a buoy with a small rope at the top and a connection to the deadman's line at the bottom. All that's left to do is release the stern mooring lines. Once released, we grab the buoy and bring it amidships, ensuring it's out of reach of the rudder and propeller. Now, by releasing only the carabiner, the boat is completely free. Next, we back up and move away from the dock. Once we have a sufficient distance from the other boats, we move forward. In my opinion, it's very important to dock slowly. We shouldn't rush it, and although with time and experience we'll master the maneuver, doing so calmly will avoid stress and problems. With the boat practically stopped, we go for the test, grab the line with the carabiner, and hook it. With this simple maneuver, we'll save ourselves from having to attach the two mooring lines by passing them through the chock and tying the knot to the cleat. The next step is to secure the buoy with the gaff, and with this maneuver, we practically have the dead boat on board. O explained in detail what this buoy is for: Having the buoy close to the stern will save us from having to hunt and raise more than 8 or 10 meters of line from the pontoon to the buoy. And believe me, although it may seem like a small thing, this is a lot of work when you're attacking alone in a strong wind and the boat wants to cross while you pull the line like crazy to avoid it. It also prevents the line from getting caught in the centerboard or propeller as you raise it. We finish raising the dead boat onto the boat, and be careful if the line isn't clean, it will have mussels and other marine life that can cause cuts. It's best to wear gloves. We gently pull on the rope and the boat will move into place. I like the cat's whisker system because you can more precisely regulate the force exerted by the deadman to port or starboard, and this is very useful depending on where the wind is blowing. We tie a knot in the cleat. Notice how calmly, without any rush, we lay down the port and starboard lines. Without the trick of the rope with the carabiner, we should quickly tie up the bow and speed to the stern to tie up as well. Although it may not seem like it, it takes a while to grab the lines with the boat hook, pass them through the cat flap, and tie the knot in the cleat. Now we'll hook a line on one side and then the other until we have the proof of the boat in the desired place. This is a very simple trick, and how it makes our lives easier when we attack alone. We have to be docked and docked very easily, even alone. 0:00 Introduction to docking a boat at the pier 1:01 How to undock a boat 1:34 The area where boats are tied up 1:46 Releasing the port and starboard mooring lines 2:10 How to undock from the stern 2:51 Docking and undocking maneuvers 4:13 How to dock a boat from the bow 5:05 Mooring a recreational boat to the stern 7:20 How to tie knots to dock a boat 7:44 Docking a boat side by side 8:11 Grabbing lines with a boat hook and threading them through the sailboat's chock 8:23 Positioning and centering the bow of the boat on the dock 9:50 Docking and undocking a ten-meter sailboat alone
