실용주의 철학 (feat. 퍼스, 제임스, 듀이)

Until the late 19th century, American intellectual circles were rife with German idealism. Why, you ask? Reading books by Kant, Hegel, or Heidegger makes me feel suffocated. I don't know what they're talking about, and I have no idea what the point of such ramblings is. This kind of thing just doesn't work for Americans. That's why pragmatism emerged. Pragmatism is an American philosophical movement that emerged as a critique of the pedantic and old-fashioned nature of German idealism. In the late 19th century, a discussion group called the Metaphysical Club, centered around the philosophy department at Harvard University, existed. It's a form of irony. They called the club the Metaphysical Club because they opposed metaphysics. Peirce and James attended, and this is where pragmatism was born. Peirce sowed the seeds of pragmatism, James helped it blossom, and Dewey later compiled them into a coherent whole. All three of these men were American. As you'll see from their stories, pragmatism is a very American philosophy. Today, we will talk about pragmatism, focusing on these three people.
