GOALS: Merico 60' CARINI (PA) – With a goal by Merico (pictured below, close-up) in the 15th minute of the second half, Perugia won in Palermo and maintained second place in the match that closes the regular season. The first half was a slow pace, partly due to the intense heat. Despite Coach Giorgi's extensive rotation, Perugia held firm, even though the only real chance of the first half fell to the home team, with Schirliu hitting the post. News from Terni, where Pescara had taken the lead (temporarily leaping above Perugia for second place), spurred the Grifoni, who took the lead in the 15th minute: Agnissa pounced on a pass from behind and beat the advancing goalkeeper, but the Rosanero defense managed to clear; the ball, however, was collected by Merico, who, in a solo run, entered the area on the left flank, confused two opponents, and beat Balaguss at the near post. Despite Pescara's draw and Avellino's defeat in Salerno, Perugia held on to their lead without any major problems, until Vinti's stoppage-time save sealed second place. Another great performance from the Perugia Primavera, who now await the playoffs, where they will face Reggiana.
