Salkantay Trek Day 3: Journey to Machu Picchu! 🇵🇪
Day 3 of the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu was one of the most varied and exciting days of the entire journey. After the brutal climb to Salkantay Pass on Day 2, this day felt completely different as the trail moved from high mountains into warmer jungle landscapes. We woke up at Collpapampa Mountain Sky View, located at around 2,950 metres above sea level, with incredible views overlooking the valley and mountains. The accommodation was one of the most unique stays of the trek, with large windows facing directly into the mountain scenery. The hiking day was shorter than the previous day, with around 10.3km of trekking, mostly on a steady descent as the temperature started warming up. Along the trail, we experienced natural face painting using dye from a local plant, continued through changing landscapes, and visited a passion fruit farm where we tasted some of the sweetest passion fruit I’ve ever had. Because of landslides on the route, part of the day included walking along the road before reaching Playa Sahuayaco, located at around 2,060 metres above sea level. This is where we had one of the highlights of the day: a traditional Peruvian coffee experience. We learned how coffee is made from bean to cup, roasted and prepared it the traditional way, and tasted fresh coffee grown in the region. After finishing the hiking section, we travelled to Lucmabamba Super Jungle Domes, located at around 2,000 metres, where we stayed for the night. This part of the Salkantay Trek felt completely different from the previous camps, with a warmer jungle environment and a much more relaxed atmosphere. Later in the day, we visited Cocalmayo Hot Springs, located near Santa Teresa at around 1,511 metres above sea level. After days of hiking through the Andes, swimming in the thermal baths was the perfect way to recover before continuing the trek toward Machu Picchu. This vlog follows the full experience of Salkantay Trek Day 3, including Collpapampa, the descent into the jungle, the passion fruit farm, the Playa Sahuayaco coffee experience, Lucmabamba Super Jungle Domes, and Cocalmayo Hot Springs. 🥾 Salkantay Trekking Experience I completed the 5-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Salkantay Trekking. 🌐 Book the trek here: https://www.salkantaytrekking.com/ 📸 Follow them on Instagram: / salkantaytrekking 🌍 How I stay connected while travelling: I use Yesim (eSIM) to stay connected anywhere in the world without needing physical SIM cards.
